6/10/2023 0 Comments Comicrack vs yacreader![]() The Chrome Web Store isn’t exactly littered with dedicated comic viewers, but this seems to be the best among a very short field of contenders. On that note, it’s only available for Windows, more’s the pity. That specialization does seem to be a bit of a detriment for those looking for wider image file support or library tools, though-you’ll have to keep your files organized manually in Windows Explorer. This focus extends to more than just the right-to-left default page layout: the image display includes various tools that make black-and-white scans more visible and legible on computer screens, something that isn’t typically a concern for full color graphic novels. While you can certainly use MangaMeeya for western comics, it’s designed specifically for Japanese-style manga. It’s probably the simplest and best-looking item on this list (with no particular care for libraries or tagging), so it’s a pity that the developer has only released a macOS version. Though it supports all the common archive formats and includes the usual bells and whistles like double-page display and right-to-left reading, it does so with a minimal interface that will make you nostalgic for a Steve Jobs software demo. Having said that, I think many would be happy with ComicRack and if it develops like I hope I'll be using it as my only comic browser and viewer as well.SimpleComic uses the fluid, and integrated user interface that was popular with mid-aughts OS X design to create what’s probably the simplest comic reader around. (Linux has some good comic viewers that show thumbnails too.) I did find one method but it was a little messy. If I can find an easy way to create thumbnails of my CBR and CBZ files in Windows Explorer I'll most likely stick with CDisplay. I can easily organize my comics in Windows Explorer and batch rename, if necessary, using the free app ExplorerXP. For now:Īs much as I love this program, I still prefer to read my comics with CDisplay. I have no idea how close any of these sites are for providing the ability to search and update each of your comics fields for even superior organization (and finding missing comics). In fact, I find CDisplay v1.8 to be essentially perfect.ĭesired features for ComicRack (found in CDisplay):ġ) tiny or no cursor when viewing the comicġ) "Open with" for right-clicking comic icon/thumbnail in folder view and viewing comic with another program (like CDisplay, though I can see why this option isn't there)Ģ) option to use Windows Explorer, especially direct integration with Vista for quick thumbnail generation and resize.ģ) Batch resize of entire collection (such as: all non-Jpgs to high quality Jpg and all pictures greater than 1400pixels in height reduced)Ĥ) Comic Book Database functionality (similar to MP3 tagging). However, despite being a great viewer as well it's missing 2 key features that I can't live without. I really love the ability to view the cover (the first picture) as a thumbnail. Simply a must-have for those with a large comic collection. There's a growing demand for quality CBR/CBZ tools like these.Īwesome. Perhaps look for a Thumbnail plugin for Windows Explorer. Try ComicRack and periodically Google for a similar program to provide Database and Thumbnail creation features. rename/tagging of files that's really easy to use (possibly able to compare the cover JPG) Windows Explorer can display thumbnails (without building a separate index) ![]() Viewer with all the features of CDisplay (or option to open with CDisplay) I added a comic tool in Ubuntu which added thumbnails to the equivalent of Windows Explorer but I couldn't find a Linux equivalent of CDisplay and I couldn't get WINE+CDisplay to function properly. I'm currently trying to find a good way to show thumbnails in Windows Explorer (thumbnail of the the 1st image). I still love CDisplay I doubt I'll replace it. I tried to add a folder but nothing showed up. I couldn't get the latest version (0.9.95) to work in Vista. The cluttered interface began to annoy me. ![]() I eventually quite using it entirely though I have hopes that it or another program will improve.
